Licorice

Netherlands is the largest manufacturer of licorice in Europe. In the Netherlands almost 80% of the population occasionally eats licorice, averaging about 2 kilograms per year per person! There are many flavors of licorice, from sweet to salty. Foreigners find the Dutch licorice often a challenge. Because of this it is a favorite gift of the Dutch when visiting foreign countries.

For who would dare to eat some of this mysterious black licorice? Sweet licorice can be very delicious, but when eating a salty licorice for the first time it can be quite a challenge to keep a straight face! It is more of an acquired taste.
